Buy fresh

Whenever you can, choose the freshest ingredients and avoid heavily processed items. The closer the food is to its original state, the better.

To stay as fresh as possible, if you can, avoid having a meal made of fully frozen items. The more steps it takes to get to the freezer, the unhealthier it becomes. Most of these freezer foods contain additives. These additives don't benefit your body in any way and can do more harm than good in the long run.

Every morning our team of buyers are up at the crack of dawn (and before dawn during the winter) to get the first pick at the freshest fruits and vegetables. The Ontario Food Terminal is where all of the magic happens. Located along the Gardiner Expressway, close to the heart of Toronto, this 40-acre hub is where Ontario farmers set up every morning to sell their fresh crop of fruits and vegetables. Our buyers walk through the stalls of over 5000 farmers gauging the produce to pick the best. What's selected is sent directly to our stores, never stored for months in a warehouse freezer.

If you need help with picking the best pear or broccoli, ask our produce specialists. They'll not only pick the best for you but can help you decide on the perfect way to prepare them for dinner. Looking to get a head start on fruit this season, see tips on how to pick the best peaches.

We do it because we love it, and we want to provide the best for you and your family.
