Consume less sugar

There are numerous health benefits to cutting the amount of sugar in your diet. Along with physical benefits, there are also improvements in mood, memory and clarity of thought. The World Health Organization recommends limiting sugar to 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams a day for men. This works out to about six teaspoons of sugar, the same as in a can of pop. 

You can try and limit sugary items as snacks throughout the day, or even opt for more naturally sourced sugars like stevia when that intense craving for something sweet hits. Another way to cut down on the sweet stuff is to go for fruit instead of that chocolate bar, though a dark chocolate bar with 70% cacao is a safe choice.
