I can never say no to spending time with my family whether it's at one of our stores or around the dinner table. Over the years I've watched my family take over the traditions and culture ingrained in us which brings a smile to my face and fills my heart with joy. With Family Day coming up, it's the chance to spend time not only with my close family but my extended family, you!
On February 18 and February 19, a few of us will be at our Oakville Place, Bayview Village and Avenue Road stores sharing some of our favourite family recipes. We'll show you the best way to prepare these dishes, and you’ll get to taste and see for yourself why we love these recipes so much.
I've asked my mom, daughter, and daughter-in-law to share what food and family mean to them and some of their earliest memories in the kitchen.
Growing up in a real life “Big Fat Greek" family, food has always been the binding force in my life and calling to the table. Greek and Italian cuisine are very alike, aside from the occasional extra cloves of garlic, the Andreou-Pusateri food “marriage” has been harmonious. In fact, some of our traditional Greek dishes have become staples on the Pusateri holiday tables.

During the early days, I devoted myself to launching the company’s home meal replacement, prepared foods program. Our offering was a composition of my favourite family dishes, made available for everyone to enjoy. Having started and operated the Avenue Road kitchen, I've shared my “encyclopedia” of old world cooking knowledge taught to me by my own mother. Though I've now retired from the store kitchen, I still consider myself the “Nonna” (grandmother) to the business. In fact all those years ago when we started, Cosimo nicknamed me “golden hands” for my talent, skill and understanding of food, which I value very much and I hope I've been able to pass onward to the younger generation. Translated from Italian.

Cooking and family are the serenity in my hectic, on-the-go, loud and opinionated Italian life. Although I would never compare myself to the talented Luchetta-Pusateri-Ciccolini matriarchs, growing up in my family kitchen, I watched my father and mother bring food to life as they cooked together - these are some of my strongest childhood memories. Those beautiful bonding experiences always drew me in, followed by of course the meal and TLC (talks, laughs, cries). I've made an effort to learn the family recipes from my grandmother, Nonna Dina, to make her proud by cherishing her dishes and feeding them to my own family as she fed us - and still does today!
