What we're bringing to the table

Now that we're well into the summer, it's the perfect time to get out and enjoy great weather with friends and family. I love combining my joy of great weather, friends and family with the outdoors. If your planning on doing the same this summer, I'll show you what you’ll need to make it a gourmet experience.

To build the right basket you have to start with the essentials, a meat. Some of my current favourites are the Brazilian Beef Kebobs and Beef Striploin Sandwich Steaks. The sandwiches can be made with our marinated beef striploin and the kebobs come already skewed and ready-to-cook, just sear on high heat for a few minutes then cook at a cooler temperature. If you want something a little lighter, try the various Seafood Kebobs. With their fragrant spices and savoury taste, they're a perfect opening number.

For sides, our picnic ready salads quickly build on the meat and come in a variety of options including Greek orzo, raspberry mint beets or bowtie pesto pasta. Add one of the new Fred's Breadsticks like the Za'atar and Black Sesame, or Ontario Red Pepper & Goat Feta with one of the antipastos from Chuck Hughes - also new to our shelves. If you only have a few hours to spend with friends before dinner, bring a few smaller snacks instead - they'll go farther than you think while leaving room for dinner.

Dips never disappoint, including the Better Than Yia Yias dips like the Melitzana or Tirokaferi. Slice Freds Bread Black and Green Olive Breadstick and spread one of the dips or a Buratta.

Freshen up your palette with summer fruit like strawberries, raspberries and cantaloupe. A slice of caramel pie from St. Donat will satisfy those craving something richer in taste.
