SERVING UP A MUSKOKA TRADITION

For more than 70 years Don’s Bakery in Bala, Ontario has delighted Muskoka locals, cottagers and area visitors with made-from-scratch baked goods that, simply put, make people smile!

Whether it's their famous butter tarts, or their Chelsea buns, pies, loaves, scones, or breads and buns, Don’s is notorious in Muskoka, and beyond for delivering a deliciously nostalgic experience. In fact, according to Bryan Foster and his wife Jana, the working owners of Don’s Bakery since 2010, “we’re recognized by past visitors to Don’s Bakery here at home and when we travel throughout Ontario and into the US as well. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited Don’s over the past seven decades. We’ve made friends. We’ve made memories. And, it’s our commitment to keep the tradition of Don’s Bakery alive for generations to come.”

“The secret to Don’s Bakery’s longevity is simple”, continues Bryan, “we make everything from scratch using the best ingredients available to us…and we deliver it all with warm country service.”

Here’s the best news! Don’s Bakery’s specialties are available at all Pusateri’s locations. Don’s delectable delights are a welcome addition at Pusateri’s. Their quality ingredients and their unique ‘country comfort’ baked goods are starting a new tradition right here in Toronto.

When I tasted the cinnamon bun, I was immediately brought back to my childhood, says John Mastrioanni, oozing cinnamon and sugar smothering a pillowy dough. The butter tarts had a sweet caramel-like filling and a flaky crust - a delicious indulgence.

Over the years Don’s ownership has changed a couple of times but the traditions, the warm country service, and the dog-eared recipes remain true to the founder Don Lloyd’s original creations of 1947.

“In fact, we’re serving the exact same baked goods to the great-grandchildren of some our guests as we did to their great grandparents when they were kids! Some things in life are best left unchanged and Don’s original recipes are one of them.”
